Focus AREAS

The establishment of the Africa Centre for Climate and Sustainable Development (ACSD) is based on the developmental rationale of a high level focus of addressing the adoption of the Paris Agreement and the Agenda 2030, with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), combined with the climate change and sustainable development needs/priorities of all countries in Africa.

Climate change and environmental degradation seriously impact agricultural production, food availability, water security, access to clean and reliable energy, as well as stability and economic growth. These sustainable development challenges are commonly found across most nations on the African continent, and the establishment of the ACSD has a specific mandate and focus on addressing these challenges.

The ACSD has an over-arching focus of ensuring that substantive accelerated progress – individual and collectively – on the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda, thus hastening tangible actions towards addressing climate change challenges and sustainable development actions on the African continent.
